Deepak: A Journey of Rhythm, Resilience, and Remarkable Change

When Deepak first walked into Disha in 2005, he was a quiet five-year-old child, born with Down Syndrome, carrying more challenges than words could express. Born in 2000, his world at that time was limited—he struggled to focus, often ignored instructions, and found little interest in outdoor activities or sports. Simple participation felt overwhelming. His increasing weight and lack of engagement added to the concerns, leaving his parents anxious about what the future might hold.

There were days when progress seemed distant. Days when even small responses felt like big victories. But at Disha, the belief was simple—every child has potential, waiting to be discovered.

With patience and persistence, a journey began.

Through speech therapy, Deepak slowly found his voice. With behavior therapy, he began to connect, respond, and engage with the world around him. Dedicated one-to-one sessions—both in education and sports—helped him take small, steady steps forward. Each effort, each attempt, each smile became a milestone.

And then, something beautiful started to unfold.

Deepak discovered rhythm.

What began as a small spark soon turned into a passion. Today, he is lovingly known as the “Tabla Boy”—his fingers speaking a language of confidence and joy that words once could not. From a child who avoided participation, he has grown into a dancer and actor, performing with expression, energy, and pride.

But his transformation didn’t stop on stage.

Deepak learned life skills that brought independence into his everyday life. He can cook, actively participate in sports, and confidently handle tasks like photostat and spiral binding—skills that empower him and give him a sense of purpose.

Nearly two decades at Disha have not just shaped Deepak—they have transformed an entire outlook. His journey has redefined what his parents once thought was possible. It has inspired a community to see beyond limitations and believe in abilities.

Today, Deepak stands tall—full of confidence, full of life, and full of dreams.

His journey is not just a story.

It is a reminder—

that with the right support, patience, and belief, every child can find their rhythm… and create their own beautiful music in life.

Eshika’s Journey of Confidence and Success

Born in 2007, Ishika Goyal became a part of Disha in 2017. At the time of admission, she was identified with Intellectual Disability and faced several social and behavioural challenges. Ishika was extremely shy and introverted. She avoided interacting with others, found it difficult to socialize, and would often get irritated while communicating with people. Expressing herself and building friendships was a major challenge for her.

Understanding her needs, the team at Disha started working with Ishika through structured Behaviour Therapy, Special Education, and specific sports training programs. Step by step, she was encouraged to participate in group activities, communicate with peers, and explore her strengths beyond the classroom.

With continuous support, patience, and encouragement, Ishika gradually transformed into a confident and socially active young girl. Today, she is studying in the NIOS Senior Class and has developed strong bonding with friends and family members. Her confidence and participation in activities have improved remarkably.

Apart from academics, Ishika discovered her talent and passion in sports and dance. She emerged as a skilled Roller-Skating player, winning:

* 2 Gold Medals and 1 Silver Medal at State Level competitions

* 2 Gold Medals and 1 Silver Medal at National Level competitions

She is also known for her enthusiasm in dance and active participation in cultural activities. Continuing her journey of growth, Ishika is now preparing herself in Athletics and practicing with determination for future competitions.

Ishika’s story is a beautiful example of how the right guidance, therapy, training, and emotional support can help a child overcome limitations and shine with confidence, independence, and achievement.

Samyak’s Journey: From Challenges to Champions

Samyak, born in 2007, became a part of the Disha family in 2016, enrolling in the NIOS Junior class. At the time of admission, he was identified with intellectual disability, accompanied by speech and behavioural challenges. Communication was limited, and social interactions were difficult, making every day learning a gradual and patient process.

At Disha, Samyak’s journey began with structured therapeutic interventions. Through consistent speech therapy, behavioural support, and individualized attention, small yet meaningful changes started to appear. His confidence began to grow, and his personality slowly started to shine.

Recognizing his energy and potential, Samyak was introduced to sports—particularly roller skating and basketball. What began as simple participation soon transformed into passion and excellence. With regular training, discipline, and determination, Samyak not only improved his physical abilities but also developed focus, teamwork, and resilience.

Today, Samyak stands as a proud sports achiever:

  • Three-time Gold Medallist at National Level in Roller Skating
  • Represented Team India at the Special Olympics World Cup Basketball, held on 2nd December 2025 in Puerto Rico, America
  • Brought laurels to the nation by winning a Bronze Medal

Alongside sports, Samyak has been actively engaged in vocational training, gaining hands-on skills in the kitchen as well as in the machine unit, where he works on tasks like photocopying and spiral binding. These skills are helping him move towards greater independence and self-reliance.

Samyak is also a vibrant part of Disha’s cultural life. He loves to dance, participates enthusiastically in programs, and is known for his ever-smiling face and warm social etiquette. His positive attitude and joyful spirit make him a favourite among peers and teachers alike.

From a child facing multiple challenges to an international medallist and confident young individual, Samyak’s journey is a powerful example of what the right support, perseverance, and belief can achieve.

Samyak is not just a success story—he is an inspiration.
